E22121-10 is an attractive well-made 2-bulb fluorescent fixture, designed to be mounted on a ceiling. Instead of the usual plastic diffuser, the light shines through a piece of ¼ inch plate glass. While this is much more elegant than plastic, the downside is that it is also much heavier --and possibly dangerous in some circumstances (see below) -- which makes installation difficult because you'll be on a step ladder with your head near the ceiling. I'm not particularly proficient, but I've installed fan/light combinations with no difficulty. It's really a two-person job, although I was able to do it myself by using a loop of string to hold one end of the glass while I inserted the screws on the other end. In addition, the glass has to be removed to change a bulb, so this is not a one-off maneuver.I was glad I didn't buy the larger 4-bulb model E22120-10, which is nearly twice as heavy.
Although 4 drywall screws and anchors are provided (but not shown on the installation sheet), the primary support is two screws coming down from the ceiling mount, with threaded end caps that take the weight of the fixture. These cylindrical end caps are nicely polished (for no obvious reason as they're not visible), but the slot was too narrow for my screwdriver and I could only finger-tighten them -- a poor solution for weight-bearing hardware.
In some circumstances, the plate glass could be a potential hazard, in my opinion. The corners of the plate are not rounded, so that if it were to fall it might well cause serious injury. The glass is held in place by four finger-tightened decorative square-headed screws. The heads of the screws are intended to be aligned parallel to the edges of the glass, so that it should generally be easy to see if they are working loose, as they would then lose the alignment. Presumably the weight of the glass will act like a spring washer and inhibit loosening.Nevertheless, I would not recommend this fixture for any ceiling subject to frequent vibration.
Given these issues, detailed installation instructions and warnings should be provided. However, there's only a rudimentary and incomplete pictures-only 1-page installation sheet.
The possible safety issue and inadequate instructions reduced my rating to 3 stars.
