I had built custom bookcases that flank my fireplace and found these lights to be perfect accent lights in the upper cabinets. About 1/4" sticks out when mounted "flush" which looks good in my opinion. In order to span my fireplace, I had to purchase the extender cable. AmerTac Westek EC48B 12V Connector Cable.Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. I paired a wireless remote to them and can control them from my seat.
