Lights of America 9012 Fluorescent Outdoor Fixture Review

I purchased these fixtures for under-the-eave outdoor installations, to illuminate a stairway.I was attracted by the brilliant light thrown by the 27W fluorescent bulbs, and their obvious energy efficiency.

One of the two fixtures I originally installed failed after about 4 years.Since I had purchased extra 27W bulbs, I decided to replace the burned-out fixture with the same model.The replacement failed after about 6 months.At that point, I very reluctantly purchased one more replacement fixture, due to the low price of the fixture and the many spare bulbs in my inventory, with the hope that the 6-month failure was a fluke.

Unfortunately, the second replacement failed after only 3 months, establishing a clear pattern of substandard product durability.Oddly, one of the two original fixtures is still operating after almost 5 years.This suggests that there was a cheapening of the product manufacture in the last few years, resulting in a product that is virtually worthless due a very short operational lifetime.

A product that is unacceptable, as I believe this one is, deserves no more than one star.

By the way, I purchased all of these fixtures at Home Depot. I checked to ensure that I was getting new fixtures, not restocked/repackaged customer returns (as a very large percentage of Home Depot stuff seems to be).
