Cooper Lighting WQ500 500W Halogen Floodlight, White Review

Cooper Lighting WQ500 500W Halogen Floodlight, WhiteI bought one of these light fixtures as a test.I needed six fixtures to space around the perimeter of my garage, but I was not going to buy all six at once without checking the quality of a test unit first.

The first unit I bought arrived with a broken bulb. This is a halogen-type 500-watt bulb.It appeared that the bulb was broken during installation, not during shipment, since the packaging was in good shape and there was no visible damage to the fixture itself, including the glass faceplate or lens.Someone apparently twisted the bulb in its socket and broke the glass tab at one end of the bulb.

So, bad start. However, the fixture itself appeared to be well made from fairly thick cast aluminum with a heavy coat of enamel paint.I think the hook-up wires are a little too thin for a 500-watt fixture. They appear to be #16 wire, but as long as they do not melt, I guess they are OK.

The unit installs easily to a standard 4-inch round junction box and comes with everything you need, such as a gasket, wire nuts, and mounting screws. The instructions are about one page and easy to follow.

I recently bought the other five units that I needed.I checked all of them for damage. No problems. At about $13.00 each, these lights seem fairly priced.I gave them four stars instead of five because of the broken light bulb.
