LITHONIA LIGHTING 11983 WH FLUORESCENT DECO ROUND FIXTURE 15" - WHITE Review

My house is 40 years old and has rectangular receptacle boxes in the ceiling. Their hardware, in the case of many fixtures assumes your house is newer and has round or octagonal receptacles.

Their 2 mounting screws did not fit the holes bored in my receptacle box. I bought screws to fit and then moved on to the major problem, the supporting bar that attaches to the receptacle box. It installs at an angle which makes it impossible to screw the 2 additional longer screws which support the fixture. The rectangular receptacle blocks these.

I had two choices: 1. Have my rectangular receptacle replaced with a round or hexagonal one or 2. Have an electrician rig a "universal support bar" which is round and can mate with the older receptacle box and also can allow the two additional supporting screws to screw tight without the older receptacle interfering.

The good news is that the light fixture is a nice one and its double circline fluorescent tubes have the equivalent of 3 75watt incandescents, providing adequate lighting. Also I found their technical support rep to be courteous and helpful.

I wrote this review so that you will not be surprised to find an incompatibility with an older rectangular receptacle box.

Wish I had known this going in. I would have located a fixture that didn't require the newer round ceiling boxes.
