I have eight (yes - 8) motion sensing lights mounted on the exterior of my home. I live in the woods and my home is set back from roads, etc.Recently - after 15 years of use - all eight of my motion sensing light assemblies blew out - presumably due to a power surge.
This unit is all metal with the exception of the sensor head and the arm that holds it which are plastic. I like a metal light although that may be entirely psychological and not very important. I should note that the plastic arm is hard to lock down to the degree I'd like but absent a hurricane force wind, it probably is fine.
This light has a universal mount - which means you can mount it on most electrical boxes - no matter their size or shape.I was not impressed with the gasket and the general idea of a universal mount. Water infiltration seems likely.
The lights seem to work reasonably well - with average sensitivity but I'd like a bit more at my site but most people would be quite happy.
I've only used this light for 4 weeks but WHAT I DON"T LIKE is that after a power outage - the light turned on and remained on - day or night - for several days - until I intervened. It should have reset but it didn't. After turning it on or off repeatedly at the switch - it finally reset but I'm not filled with confidence when the next power outage occurs.
Good electronics are what makes or breaks these lights. Are the electronics robust, can they handle power surges, do they reliably reset after a power outage, how sensitive is the sensor and how much can you adjust the sensor to meet your needs. These are NOT easy questions but are the right ones to ask. This light rates only two stars in my opinion. I'll be buying other brands in the future and hopefully I'll find a good one prior to replacing all eight lights. I've got seven more lights to replace - wish me luck.
One final note: The sensor head does NOT have a large vertical range. That means if you mount this light high up on a building (eg - a second story) and tilt the sensor head down (which is only logical given the location) - the range of this light will be limited. My other lights - had better vertical sensitivity and better range when mounted higher up.
